Foxwoods Resort Casino has announced that during the month of September 2021, its revenue from slots was $31 million. This has translated into a payment to the State of Connecticut of $7.75 million, as part of the slots revenue contributions that were agreed by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.
The $31 million is what Foxwoods keeps after the payment has been made to the state. It is also a substantial increase in the amount they were able to keep in September last year, which was $27.6 million. This long-standing agreement with the state started in 1993 and has seen Foxwoods give more than $4.4 billion to the state as a result.
This bounce-back in Foxwoods’ fortunes comes after they advised in August 2020 that income had dropped by more than 70% due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The resort had been forced to close for more than two months as a result of the pandemic.
Still, the company took advantage of the closure to upgrade the machines for the slots, its IT infrastructure, and general maintenance for the property. The investment is now paying off as customers are flocking back to the resort for evenings and weekends at the casino with high hopes of a big win at the slots.
One of the boosts to the high revenue for the month came from an event held on 18 September. The Live Out Loud initiative from the resort hosted the Drag Binglo, where guests enjoyed music, glow bingo, and a night run by glamorous drag queen hosts Loosey LaDuca and Natalia Fierce, both famous in Connecticut.
In addition, guests were given the opportunity to win more than $30,000 in cash, alongside other prizes such as concert tickets.
While one of the things that the Foxwoods Resort Casino is most famous for is their slots, on 30 September, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, in conjunction with DraftKings Inc, started retail sports betting. Customers can place sports bets using the DraftKings Sportsbook, which they can find at the Ultimate Race Book within the Rainmaker Casino.
This is in addition to several betting kiosks that are located right across the resort. The newly-launched initiative has seen the company take on new staff to help to manage the demand, and there are still vacancies for those who are interested in working in this field or within the more traditional casino and slots set-ups.
Foxwoods is continuing with its campaign to bring customers through the doors by putting on a lot of entertainment over the winter months. Events that are taking place and coming up include Drive-In movies and a number of music nights with leading performers and tribute acts.
All of this is in addition to the variety of casino games and slots that attract thousands of customers each month.
Anyone who does want to make the most of their trip to the Foxwoods Casino Resort will also be able to take part in Beerfest in November as well as enjoy the casino games and slots.
