Da Vinci Diamonds

About

Da Vinci Diamonds is a game that has gotten quite a bit of attention from IGT, the company offering two versions for it, the other one getting the option to Dual Play. The theme revolves around gemstones, diamonds and the art that was created by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci, just like the title suggests.

You will find this to be a game with 5 reels and 20 active lines, capable of delivering payouts which give back up to 5,000 coins. In the game, there will be Tumbling Reels to make the action more fun, along with wild symbols, with scatters or free spins.

Betting requirements

In typical IGT fashion, you will discover that the lines are fixed, at 20 in this particular case. You’re stuck with the wager of 20 coins, and the coin value, or line bet as it’s called in this case, is the only one that is modified. You start at $1 per line and if you can spend more, then you can get a lot higher with that particular value.

Theme & Design

The game uses two different themes, which normally wouldn’t mix together, and the result is this, a combination of focuses between precious stones and the art of Da Vinci. You’re not getting his sculptures or his inventions here, just his famous paintings, the Mona Lisa being the first one on the list obviously.  There are three symbols with paintings showing in total, along with a symbol with a diamond, one with a ruby, an emerald and a yellow gemstone. The wild logo is also there, as is the bonus logo.

Though a game inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci has plenty of potential, as other slots have demonstrated in the past, I don’t think that this particular slot has risen up to the challenge. Then again, IGT is not really known for offering high end graphics in the slot machines that they put out. The result in the end is a game that’s playable, but thanks in large to those awkward gemstones it’s not going to be considered a masterpiece by anyone.

Special Features

IGT slot machines will often excel at offering a long and impressive list of features, and Da Vinci Diamonds does this part well. It all starts with the way you form your combinations and the way the game rewards you extra for it. It has a Tumbling Reels feature, which you might be familiar with from other modern slot machines. Winning symbols are removed from the reels, allowing new ones to tumble in and to try and form new combinations, all this happening as part of the same original spin (either paid or free, it doesn’t matter). Multiple wins can be obtained through this feature, and the new symbols will keep tumbling in for as long as you get new combinations formed.

The Wild Logo is a simple substitute in this case, without any powers that would allow it to pay you when it shows up. However, it’s still useful as a replacement, so you can form combinations using it together with regular symbols. You can have it replace one of the paintings, a gemstone or the diamond jackpot symbol.

You will find that the game also has a Bonus Logo as a symbol, and that it can be used when appearing on three or more of its reels. The first three reels will get it in the base game, and together they can offer you 6 free spins. You can retrigger the feature, with 3 to 5 symbols, and with as many as 15 additional rounds, depending on your luck and on the triggering icons. The game mentions that the free spins use a different set of reels, but doesn’t say if your odds are higher or lower to get a good payout out of them. I would assume the latter.

Jackpot

A regular symbol, which shows you the diamond and the game logo together, is responsible for the biggest payout of the slot being offered. You can win 5,000 coins through it, when five are forming a combination on an active line.

With the RTP sitting at an average of 95%, the game doesn’t compare favorably with other slot machines that are released these days. It’s not a bad number, but you can find plenty of titles at 96% or higher.

Conclusion

Fans of Da Vinci’s work might enjoy playing the game for its theme, if not for the actual design. It has a couple of decent features, but overall its RTP is not good enough to make it a must play game.
