Hot as Hades slots is a game that’s taking us to Ancient Greece, and to the places where their gods resided. Hades is the god of the Underworld, the place where the dead lived. In this game, you’re apparently trying to return a Crystal helm, after it was stolen. In terms of things it has to offer, Hot as Hades is a regular slot machine, which uses 5 reels, 20 lines, plus features like the Quest for the Crystal Helm bonus, a Super Mode with free spins, wilds, scatters and multipliers. It looks like a pretty good offer overall, which is topped with a couple of high prizes which can reach values of up to $25,000.
You will find that the game needs all 20 lines to be active, so at the very least you will need a wager of $0.20 to get the reels spinning, using the minimum wager of $0.01 per line. It can be increased from there though, either by taking the coins to values as high as $0.50, or by having up to 25 coins selected for one line. The maximum line bet allowed in Hot as Hades reaches a value of $12.50, so for 20 lines you can end up spending up to $250.
Hot as Hades’ action revolves around the god that ruled the Underworld, according to the mythology of Ancient Greece. He was a sibling of gods like Zeus, Hera or Poseidon, but he is the one stuck as the ruler over the dead, while the others got the better parts of the world to have an influence over. For this game, the action appears to follow the theft of a Crystal helm, an artifact that was stolen and which you have to recover. You actually get an entire bonus game, with four levels, built around this theme, so I feel like they did right by the topic they chose and implemented it properly. The reels are placed in the Underworld, so you see a boy with fire hair on the left side of the screen, which is actually Hades. There is a stone pathway with crystals, fire and lava around it, and that’s about it for the surrounding design. The reels have images either with poker icons or with various gods and creatures from Greek mythology. There is Hades, Zeus, Poseidon, Medusa, Cerberus, a logo and a Crystal helm, for the more important icons. They didn’t go for the ultra-realistic design here, more for a 3D kind of drawing that makes the characters look a bit funny. It’s perfectly playable, but with the poker cards added to the mix as well, it’s far from being a favorite of mine.
This is one of the areas where the game does well, and it all starts with the usual wild feature, which in this case comes to us via the Hot as Hades Logo icon. It’s one of the symbols which can pay the big prize of $25,000, but at the same time you can get its help as a substitute for another symbol. As a wild, it will double the prizes of the regular combinations formed thanks to it. The wild will not replace a scatter, but that’s to be expected in most slots. The Crystal Helm is the other symbol, a scatter that’s going to reward you based on the number of times that you get it during a single spin. You need two or more if you’re interested in the cash prizes, which will also get up to $25,000, same as the wilds. That same Crystal Helm, which I just mentioned, brings you the bonus game called Quest For The Crystal Helm, as long as you get three or more symbols. It’s an interesting bonus game, where you have to recover an artifact, while fighting through four different levels. If you finish up the bonus game, then you get bonus prizes. Super Mode is a random feature, which can be triggered only when the game wants to, so the symbols you land have no control over it. It comes with 5 free spins for you, with three wild positions locked in place and useful for as long as this feature is ongoing.
The best prize that Hot as Hades can award is the one coming from the wild or the scatter. Both can pay you up to $25,000, depending on your wager. There is a third combo that can also reach this amount, the Hades icon when it has a wild with a multiplier in its combination. A 97% average Return to Player means that you get a good chance at making a profit, or at least not losing as much. It’s a very good RTP for a slot machine.
Hot as Hades is a game that I’ve enjoyed playing, and the main reasons for that would be the quirky theme and the features involved. I’m not as much of a fan of its design though.
