About

Dragonz is a new game, which Microgaming designed with a 3D dragon inspired theme in mind, using for its main characters baby versions of these dangerous creatures. This makes the game a lot cuter looking than you’d normally expect a dragon themed slot machine to be, but it has its downsides as well. Dragonz has to offer players symbols with wild or scatter abilities, plus features like the multiple types of free spins or the Wild Deal. The 243 ways to win are going to use a 5x3 reel setup. The game has a top prize of $3,000 to give away, but with relatively low wagers required to get it.

Betting requirements

For Dragonz, Microgaming went with some pretty low betting requirements, at least compared with what they usually have in their slots. The most you can wager on a single round is $30. You always seem to play with the equivalent of 40 lines, which the game deems sufficient to cover its 243 ways to win that you actually use to form combinations. You can have as many as 15 coins per virtual line, but their denomination will only go up to $0.05, hence the relatively low maximum bet. The minimum bet possible in the game will be worth $0.40.

Theme & Design

The name pretty much gives it away, as a dragon themed slot machine. The difference is that you’re not looking at fire breathing dragons and at medieval hunters that are going after them, the way you see in a lot of other slots. Instead, there are four different baby dragons involved, looking different enough that they might as well belong to different breeds of dragons. They’re cute and they’re up to no good, and each one will have its own feature that they will trigger during the free spins. The names of the four baby dragons are Flint (red), Switch (purple), Gobble (green) and Frost (light blue). You don’t really get the usual dragon look from the four main characters, being more of a computer 3D design, which works well enough in this case, but wouldn’t be a winner if it was used in a cartoon series. The four dragons look part cute, part up to no good. Though they used a wild logo, a portal and four dragons for the more important symbols of Dragonz, the last six symbols are with poker cards, and basic ones at that, without any customization that would make them look like they belong here. It’s the part of the game where Microgaming missed the mark, unfortunately.

Special Features

Dragonz will give the player some features that he expects, but there are some bonuses as well, and one of them comes through the feature they call Wild Deal. The Wild Deal triggers whenever a wild symbol appears on the 3rd reel, if you don’t get any wins that round. If the requirements are met, then there will be additional wilds placed on the other reels, so that you get a guaranteed win out of that round. The wilds which are dealt this way can act as replacements for all other symbols. As for the wild symbols which you get like usual, they’re only going to be used as substitutes for the regular symbols, not for scatters. Wild symbols may appear up to five times on just as many reels, forming combinations that can pay 600x the line wager. There is a scatter as well in the game, which appears to be showing some sort of portal to the player. It will pay up to $3,000 if you get it to land enough times on the reels. It will also get you free spins, if you have three or more present. The free spins are of four types, and you get one at random at first. You can start to pick the free spins that you prefer only after you’ve triggered them at least twelve times. Flint’s free spins will give you 10 rounds, with flaming wilds which are added by the dragon to the reels. Each time Flint breathes fire, he adds an increasing number of wilds. Switch also has 10 free spins for you, but this time the feature gives you Stashed wilds. The non-winning wilds are stored by Switch, so that you can use them when you have at least three collected. A guaranteed win comes with this event. Frost’s 10 free games will give you the Frosty Wilds, which are frozen if they don’t contribute to a win, and they remain locked until they do pay you somehow. The Gobble free spins will have Winning Wilds inside, randomly placed by the green dragon on the reels. They are sticky until the round where they no longer help out with a win.

Dragonz

Jackpot

The game will not pay a lot of money at once, but it will have interesting features that should help you to walk away with some kind of profit. You can get up to $3,000 from the scatter, or up to $450 from the wild. Keep in mind though, the slot has a maximum wager of $30, so it doesn’t do that bad payout wise as it might seem.

Conclusion

Dragonz is a good game, with plenty of variety when it comes to features, plus some cute baby dragons that will convince a lot of players to give it a shot in the first place.
